Karua Warns Uhuru Against Staying in Power

Martha Karua, the leader of Narc Kenya, has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to refrain from attempting to stay in power beyond his constitutional term limit.

Speaking at a meeting with Mt. Kenya leaders on November 15, 2019, President Kenyatta stated that he had no issues with being appointed as the Prime Minister.

However, Karua countered this by stating that it would be unconstitutional for President Kenyatta to continue in power beyond his term limit.

According to the Constitution, a President is limited to serving two five-year terms, and the aim is to prevent any individual from holding the office for more than ten years.

At the meeting, Karua emphasized the importance of women speaking out on issues affecting them, and she urged women to unite and speak with one voice on matters that concern them.

She also called on women to use their collective voice to address the challenges they face.

President Kenyatta's statement on November 15, 2019, was in response to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, which he had asked leaders to study.

However, Karua's warning to President Kenyatta is a clear indication that she is opposed to any attempts to undermine the Constitution and the rule of law.
