On November 21, 2019, Sky News issued a statement correcting their earlier report on a stowaway who fell from a Kenya Airways plane as it landed at Heathrow Airport in June.
The news outlet had initially identified the stowaway as Nairobi airport worker Paul Manyasi, but later admitted that their reporting was founded on misleading information.
According to the statement, Sky News regrets the false reporting and has withdrawn the story by Africa correspondent John Sparks.
The news outlet also apologized to Colnet, the agency that was reported to have hired the stowaway, stating that they no longer have conclusive evidence that he worked for the cleaning company.
The retraction came after the alleged father of the stowaway, Isaac, confessed to misleading Sky News reporters, admitting that he had received Ksh20,000 for the false information.
Isaac's son, Shivonje Isaac, is reportedly alive and on remand in a Kenyan prison, according to a report in the Daily Nation.
