On November 21, 2019, Sky News faced backlash for its reporting on the 'disappearance' of a stowaway who fell from a Kenya Airways plane in London.
The British broadcaster had identified the stowaway as Paul Manyasi, but later admitted that its reporting was founded on misleading information.
According to a statement on Sky News' website, the man whose photographs were published as the stowaway, Cedric Isaac Shivonje, had admitted to misleading the broadcaster.
Shivonje, who was met by the Daily Nation in a Kenyan prison, claimed that the photos used by Sky News were his, not those of Paul Manyasi.
Kenyan authorities had disputed Sky News' report, saying the man in the report was not the dead stowaway.
Paul Manyasi's family had initially confirmed that their son was on board the KQ flight from Nairobi to London, but later denied any relations with the stowaway.
