On Wednesday night, a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) student was brutally attacked by armed thugs while walking to the hostels with two friends.
According to Kiambu County Commander Ali Nuno, the gang was armed with knives and targeted Oliver Simiyu, leaving his friends unharmed.
The attack occurred near Seagull Hotel in Philo 1 Street shortly after 9pm, with the assailants cutting the victim's lips before stealing his phone.
Witnesses reported that the victim bled heavily and was rushed to Jkuat Hospital.
Students of Jkuat have in the past held demonstrations over their security, following several attacks on students, which have raised concerns among residents of Juja town in Kiambu County.
The university's hostels can only accommodate 2,700 students, with the remaining 30,000 living off campus, contributing significantly to the town's economy.
Following the incident, police have been under scrutiny, particularly after an attack by four officers on a student who took part in demonstrations at the university on Monday.
