The Samsung Galaxy Fold, a revolutionary device that seamlessly transitions between a smartphone and a tablet, has finally landed in Kenya.
Launched on November 21, 2019, the device boasts a 7.3-inch display that folds into a 4.6-inch secondary display, along with 12GB of memory and 6 cameras.
At a price of Kshs 230,000, the Galaxy Fold is undoubtedly a luxury purchase, but its unique features and capabilities have sparked a debate about whether it justifies its high cost.
According to Charles Kimari, head of the mobile division at Samsung Electronics East Africa, the initial batch of 24 units sold out within hours of its arrival, thanks to a teaser campaign that lasted for almost two weeks.
A new batch is expected to be available soon, catering to those who have placed their orders. While Samsung has not announced any plans to offer credit facilities, Kimari hinted that financing options may be available through partners like Barclays Bank of Kenya in the coming days.
The Galaxy Fold's expansive display and feature set also introduce expanded multitasking options, allowing users to open up to three applications at the same time and switch between them seamlessly.
Whether the Galaxy Fold's unique features and capabilities are enough to justify its high price remains to be seen, but one thing is certain - for those willing to splurge, the cost is not a problem.
