On October 26, 2019, Joyce Syombua, her 10-year-old daughter Shanice, and 5-year-old son Prince Michael went missing after visiting Major Peter Mugure at Laikipia Airbase in Nanyuki.
Tragically, their lifeless bodies were later discovered buried at Kilimo Indians' cemetery in Thingithu area, exhumed by homicide police officers in collaboration with military police.
According to a post-mortem examination, Syombua was hit with a blunt object, while the children were strangled with a rope.
Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed the gruesome details, stating,
“THE ADULT FEMALE HAD INJURIES ON THE HEAD, BLUNT TRAUMA AND BLEEDING IN THE BRAIN. THE KIDS HAD BEEN STRANGLED USING A ROPE.”
Major Peter Mugure's sister, however, defended him in an interview with Citizen TV, saying,
‘My brother has never smoked, DOES NOT drink, He is just a straight guy. My brother is an honest man. He cannot kill a fly.’
Police are suspecting that the bodies could have been buried on the night of October 26, and detectives are investigating the case further.
