On November 20, 2019, a senseless tragedy unfolded at a high school football game in New Jersey, claiming the life of 10-year-old Micah Tennant.
According to eyewitnesses, the shooting occurred during a game between Pleasantville and Camden high schools at Lincoln Financial Field. The incident also injured a 27-year-old man, believed to be the intended target, and a youth who was grazed by a bullet.
Local news media captured the sequence of events on video, providing a disturbing glimpse into the chaos that erupted during the game.
Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office released a statement expressing their condolences to the Tennant family, saying, 'On behalf of the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, we would like to express our sincere condolences to the Tennant family on the tragic passing of Micah. Words at this time seem so insufficient to portray the anger and outrage that our community feels regarding his loss.'
Hours before the game, Eagles' quarterback Carson Wentz met with the high school players, praising the Eagles' decision to host the two high school teams. He said, 'It's really cool to see the organization step out and reach out to try to make a difference.'
Despite the tragic events, the game continued, with Camden defeating Pleasantville 22-0.
