Android 10 Update for Oppo Devices ¶
Chinese smartphone brand Oppo is set to roll out its latest custom Android overlay, Color OS 7, to a number of its existing devices starting next week. The update will bring Android 10 to these devices, marking a significant upgrade for users.
Color OS 7 is a major update to Oppo's custom Android overlay, bringing with it a host of new features and improvements to existing ones. The new version of the software features a light visual design, reducing visual fatigue for users. System sounds have also been reworked, and new tones are available, along with Art+ wallpapers to complement the changes in the software.
App icons in Color OS 7 are fully customizable, allowing users to alter their shape and size on the home screen. This is a significant departure from Oppo's previous approach to user interface design, which was heavily influenced by iOS.
Color OS 7 also seeks to improve memory management on Oppo devices, boosting frame rates during gaming and reducing startup time by up to 40%. The software also enhances Oppo's smart voice assistant, Breeno, although its usefulness is limited by its absence in most markets.
Rollout Schedule ¶
The rollout of Color OS 7 to existing Oppo smartphones will occur in several phases. The first phase, starting on November 25th, will see variants of the Oppo Reno smartphone receive the update. The Oppo Reno 2 will follow suit in December, with the remaining devices receiving the update in 2020.
The rollout schedule is as follows:
- Phase 1 (November 25th): Oppo Reno, Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, Oppo Reno Ace
- Phase 2 (December 2019): Oppo Reno 2
- Phase 3 (Q1 2020): Oppo Reno 2 Z, Oppo Reno Z, Oppo Find X, Oppo R17, Oppo R17 Pro, Oppo K5
- Phase 4 (Q2 2020): Oppo R15, Oppo K3, Oppo A9, Oppo A9x, Oppo A9 2020, Oppo A11, Oppo A11x
Oppo sells several of the devices lined up to receive the Android 10 update through Color OS 7 in the Kenyan market, including the Oppo A9 2020 and the premium Reno 10x Zoom.
