On Wednesday, November 20, 2019, a dramatic escape unfolded at Ruiru police station, leaving authorities stunned.
Two robbery suspects, Wycliffe Kori Achola and Dennis Atitwa Atenya, were supposed to be arraigned in court just hours before they made their daring escape.
The suspects managed to trick Constable Christopher Mwangombe, who opened the cell door to escort one of them to the toilet at around 5 am.
However, the prisoner, Wycliffe Kori Achola, attacked the officer, wrestling him to the ground before Dennis Atitwa Atenya joined in.
The suspects then strangled the officer before jumping over the wall to escape.
It remains unclear where the other officer, Constable Julia Nduta, was during the escape.
Police launched a manhunt immediately, but by Wednesday evening, the suspects were yet to be arrested.
This escape brings the total number of robbery suspects from Kiambu County who have escaped from police custody in the last eight months to at least 22.
