Busia County's 16 chief officers are facing an uncertain future as their contracts expire in February next year. The County Public Service Board has invited eligible candidates to apply for the positions by December 3, as advertised on the county's website.

According to sources, Governor Sospeter Ojaamong is waiting for a performance report before deciding the fate of county ministers. The ministers and chief officers were handed two-year contracts last year, which are renewable subject to performance.

Henry Wati, the head of the evaluation committee, explained that the committee will assess the performance of each senior official based on their objectives. "We are going to give them scores in every area of operation and we shall also rank departments according to how they have performed," Wati said.

Robert Papa, the county head of strategy and public service delivery unit, emphasized that the objective of performance appraisals is to ensure ministers and chief officers meet the expectations of residents as far as service delivery is concerned.
