On October 5, Liverpool's Mohamed Salah suffered a damaged ankle in a strong challenge from Hamza Choudhury during their 2-1 win over Leicester. The injury forced him to miss their clash at Manchester United and was further aggravated in their last game against Manchester City.

Salah was filmed with a protective boot on his foot while with the Egypt national team before withdrawing from international duty and returning to Merseyside. He has been struggling with the ankle injury since the incident.

Andy Robertson, meanwhile, left the City game with a swollen ankle, forcing him out of Scotland's two games. Speaking about his frustration at being unable to captain his national side, Robertson said: "I don’t care what game it is, I want to play it and my track record in the last five years has shown that. But I don’t want to pick up more injuries and ruin my season because of it."

Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson also pulled out of international duty, with Gomez suffering a knock in training and Henderson failing to shake off a viral infection. Virgil van Dijk skipped Holland duty due to "personal reasons".

According to Sky Sports News, both Salah and Robertson are now expected to miss Liverpool's return to Premier League action at Anfield against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
