On November 20, 2019, an extraordinary coincidence occurred in Nanyuki, Kenya, where identical twins Mark and Maxwell Gachau achieved the same marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination.
Mark and Maxwell, both 13 years old, were among the top performers at St Christopher School in Nanyuki, with Mark Gachau scoring 400 marks and Maxwell Gachau also scoring 400 marks.
According to Agnes Nkiria, the school head teacher, the twins had previously performed differently in exams, with Maxwell scoring around 390 to 400 marks and Mark consistently scoring above 400 marks.
Mark attributed his success to his brother and parents, who supported him throughout his illness and helped him keep up with school.
Maxwell, on the other hand, credited his parents and the competition from his brother for his motivation.
Both twins have big dreams: Mark hopes to join Alliance Boys High and become a doctor, while Maxwell aims to attend Mang'u High School and pursue a career in aviation as a pilot.
