On November 20, 2019, Sony Sugar suffered a major setback in the Kenyan Premier League after they failed to show up for their league match against Zoo Kericho at Kericho Green Stadium.

This was the third consecutive match the club had failed to honour, having missed two others against AFC Leopards and Tusker.

According to KPL CEO Jack Oguda, citing Fifa rules, a team that fails to honour three consecutive league games is relegated to the second tier league.

"The rules state that if a club misses three games in a season, they are relegated to the National Super League," Oguda explained.

Chemelil Sugar, who also failed to show up for a scheduled league match against KCB, will likely face similar consequences.

Meanwhile, other matches saw Kisumu All Stars beat Wazito 2-0, Sofapaka end Mathare United's unbeaten run with a 1-0 win, and Posta Rangers thump Nzoia Sugar 2-0.
