On November 20, 2019, the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) announced the relegation of eight teams from its Premier and lower-tier leagues.
According to Joseph Amoko, the competition secretary, the teams relegated include World Hope, USIU-A Tigers (men's Premier League), Western Delight, Africa Nazarene University (women's Premier League), Nakuru Club, Trailblazers (men's Division One), Egerton University, and 4-Christ (men's Division Two).
Amoko explained that the relegation was based on the teams' performance in the previous season, with the two teams that finished in the last two positions in each league category being demoted.
However, Amoko noted that the women's Division One League was likely to retain 10 teams, as the competition had fewer clubs compared to the other categories.
He added that if the governing council decided to increase the number of teams in the women's Division One League to 12, all 10 clubs would be maintained. If not, two teams from the bottom would be relegated to the provincial league, while two from the provincial league would be promoted.
