On November 20, 2019, a tragic incident shook the nation when the bodies of Joyce Syombua (31) and her children, Shanice Maua (10) and Prince Michael (5), were discovered at Makaburini in Thingithu area, approximately 9 minutes away from the Laikipia Air Base.
The postmortem examination, conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, revealed that Joyce Syombua died from injuries inflicted by a blunt object, while her children were strangled with a rope.
However, the pathologist noted that they cannot determine the exact time of the murders as the bodies had already started decomposing.
Additionally, while they cannot confirm or deny fears of possible poisoning, they have taken samples for testing.
Major Peter Mugure and his co-accused Collins Pamba were arraigned in court on Monday and detained for 21 days pending the conclusion of investigations.
Central region's Senior Deputy Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Peter Mailanyi, requested more time for the police to investigate, citing several complexities in unraveling the murder of the three family members.
