On November 20, 2019, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) reinstated permits for two maize flour brands, Dola and Kifaru, allowing them to resume production.
The brands, manufactured by Kitui Flour Mills Limited and Alpha Grain Millers Limited, respectively, had been suspended due to high aflatoxin levels.
Kebs Managing Director Bernard Njiraini stated that the brands had completed the required corrective actions, including recalling all batches and implementing control measures during processing.
Other products, including Nuteez peanut butter and Zesta, had also been allowed back onto the shelves after their owners implemented the necessary corrective actions.
Kebs had initially withdrawn permits for five maize flour brands and seven peanut butter brands due to high aflatoxin levels, citing market surveillance and public reports.
