On November 20, 2019, a tragic family murder case came to light in Nanyuki, Kenya.

According to an autopsy report released on that day, Joyce Syombua, her 10-year-old daughter Shanice Maua, and her 5-year-old son Prince Michael died in a gruesome manner.

Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Syombua suffered severe head injuries from a blunt object, while her children were strangled using a rope.

However, the identities of the victims were initially undetermined, with DNA analysis required to confirm their true identities.

The bodies were discovered buried in a shallow grave within Thingithu Estate in Nanyuki, after a suspect led the police to the location.

Major Peter Mugure, Syombua's husband and a KDF soldier, was arrested in connection with the murders and remains in detention as police continue to investigate the case.
