On November 20, 2019, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia provided an update on the circumstances surrounding the crash of a chopper into Lake Nakuru in 2017.
The chopper, which was carrying five passengers including pilot Apollo Malowa, was on a campaign trip for the UhuRuto team in Narok County.
Tragically, all five passengers on board lost their lives in the crash, with the bodies of Sam Gitau and John Mapozi still unrecovered.
According to Macharia, the pilot, Apollo Malowa, was intoxicated at the time of the crash and was unable to control the chopper as it approached Lake Nakuru.
"After investigations were conducted and a report was submitted, it was established that the pilot, Malowa, was drunk and unable to control the chopper as it approached Lake Nakuru," Macharia stated.
