On November 10, 2019, Faith Wangui, 25, went missing after meeting her estranged husband, Joseph Muchiri, in Nakuru town. Her body was later found in a thicket at Menengai crater on November 16, 2019, with signs of mutilation and acid burns.

According to her brother, Joseph Mwangi, Wangui had left home to meet Muchiri, but her mobile phone was switched off at around 9pm, making it difficult for her family to track her. The family reported her missing at Bahati police station on November 13, 2019.

Police boss Jacinta Wangechi said Muchiri had gone into hiding after the discovery of Wangui's body. However, he was found dead on November 19, 2019, hanging from a tree branch at Muthera farm in Mau Narok, Njoro Sub County. A suicide note was found near his body, stating that he had taken his own life after being implicated in Wangui's murder.

Wangechi said, 'It is unfortunate that the main suspect in the murder of the mother of two hanged himself, at a time we were expecting him to share information about the brutal murder.'
