Published on November 20, 2019, Air Botswana has unveiled a plan to cut over 50% of its staff as part of a restructuring effort aimed at reducing costs and improving profitability.
The airline, which owns three aircraft serving domestic and regional routes, has been running at a loss for over a decade due to high maintenance costs.
According to Air Botswana director Agnes Khunwana, the airline currently employs around 450 staff members, with plans to retain only about 210 staff members.
The restructuring plan involves transferring ground handling operations to a new private company, which will be established to provide these services.
Khunwana stated that most of the laid-off workers would be hired by the new company, indicating that the restructuring effort aims to minimize job losses.
