Kenyan Model Said Hussein Makes History in Mr Africa International ¶
Since its inception eight years ago, no Kenyan contestant has made it to the final round of the Mr Africa International pageant until now. Said Hussein, Kenya's first finalist, has overcome depression and weight-shaming to emerge as the best among 10 Kenyan contestants.
He will compete against eight finalists for the African crown in the final round of the pageant in Lagos, Nigeria.
Mr. Africa International is a beauty pageant for men with creative minds and a background in community service. Said Hussein was inspired to participate after helping last year's winner prepare for the competition.
He began his modelling career at the age of 12 in primary school and has since done numerous shows in Kenya, including the African Fashion Fair and Nairobi Fashion Show.
Despite facing challenges, including depression and weight-shaming, Said Hussein has persevered and is now preparing for the final round of the pageant.
He attributes his success to his support system, including his niece, who has been his number one fan, and his friend and fashion designer, Filbert Mkwiche.
When asked about his plans after the pageant, Said Hussein expressed his desire to be the face of the Kenyan male modelling fraternity and to have Kenyan models represent the country in international fashion shows.
