On November 20, 2019, a devastating road accident occurred at Man Eaters area on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, claiming the lives of four people and leaving several others injured.
A matatu driver, who was ferrying passengers from Murang'a to Kilifi for an event at Pwani University, attempted to overtake another vehicle but collided head-on with a lorry headed in the opposite direction.
The injured passengers are receiving treatment at the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary within the same facility.
Taita Taveta Police Commander Saidi Kiprotich has urged drivers to be more vigilant on the road and observe traffic rules, warning companies against letting drivers operate vehicles when they are tired or lack sleep.
