Published on November 20, 2019, a Nigerian police investigation has uncovered a shocking case of a convict running a $1 million online scam from behind bars.

Hope Olusegun, serving a 24-year sentence at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos, was arrested seven years ago for his crimes.

According to a preliminary investigation, Olusegun still had access to the internet, allowing him to continue his fraud schemes, which spanned two continents.

Using a fake identity, Olusegun managed to open two bank accounts, buy a luxury car, and purchase homes around the country using proceeds from his crimes.

Despite being admitted to the Nigeria Police Hospital in Lagos, Olusegun left the facility under unclear circumstances and continued to live a life of luxury, staying in hotels and seeing his family.

It is suspected that Olusegun colluded with prison officials, bribing them to 'turn a blind eye' to his activities.

Officials from Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison remain tight-lipped on the matter.
