On November 20, 2019, a gruesome discovery was made in Mwea, Kirinyaga, where the decomposing body of a police officer was found in a house.
According to Leah Kithei, the area police commander, the body was discovered in the officer's friend's house at Mururi Trading Centre.
The deceased officer was based at Difathas police post and had been reported missing by his friend after he failed to return to the station on Saturday.
Residents of Mururi reported that the stench emanating from the rented house prompted them to call the police, leading to the discovery of the body.
Investigations revealed that the deceased was last seen at a local bar on Saturday evening in the company of two people, including the owner of the house and another unidentified person.
One suspect has since been arrested and taken to Wang'uru police station, while the body of the deceased is at Kibugi funeral home in Kutus awaiting post-mortem.
