On November 20, 2019, former Attorney-General Amos Wako spoke out against his recent ban from entering the United States.

Mr. Wako, who was in Nairobi at the time, expressed his surprise at the ban, citing a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request made by his personal lawyer in 2012.

The FOIA request sought full disclosure of the reasons behind the State Department's decision to deny Mr. Wako a visa in November 2009.
