On Tuesday, a body was discovered in the Ngong River at Kware, marking the 18th body found in the river.
The body was spotted by youths participating in the 'Ng'arisha Jiji Initiative' by Nairobi County, who were hired for a clean-up exercise.
According to Abdi Guyo, the team leader of the Ng'arisha Jiji Embakasi South sub-county, the body was submerged in water and was noticed by one of the youths during their daily cleaning routine.
'We are being affected day and night. We need police to move swiftly and come up with a full report on the frequent dumping of bodies in our rivers,' Mr. Guyo said.
The discovery was reported at the Kware Police Station under Police Occurrence Book number 10/19/11/2019/.
The Nairobi River has become a sewer due to the discharge of waste from factories and informal settlements with no proper sewage system or trash removal.
Nairobi County Government launched the clean-up exercise last year to transform the city.
