On Tuesday, Harambee Starlets made a statement in the Cecafa Women's Championship, thrashing minnows Djibouti 12-0 at the Chamazi Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

This impressive win was their second in the tournament, following their 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Ethiopia in their opening match on Sunday.

With six points, Starlets are currently perched at the top of their Group B, pending the outcome of the match between Uganda and Ethiopia.

For Djibouti, who had already suffered a 13-0 defeat in their previous match against Uganda's Crested Cranes, this loss marked the end of their tournament, forcing them to return home early.

The high-scoring match saw Jentrix Shikangwa score four goals, while Mercy Airo and Mwanalima Adam each recorded a hat-trick. Vivian Makokha and Janet Bundi also found the net with a goal each, completing the thorough humiliation of Djibouti.

Corazone Aquino, the key striker in the match, may not have scored, but she played a crucial role in supplying the balls to the three-prong front line of herself, Makokha, and Lydia Waganda.

Goalkeeper Judith Osimbo, who plays for Women Premier League side Gaspo Ladies, had a relatively quiet match, as Djibouti's ladies struggled to breach their half of the pitch.

Starlets' coach David Ouma had urged his team to be 'ruthless' in their subsequent matches, and it's clear that they took his advice to heart, as they dominated the match from start to finish.

On the sidelines, hosts Tanzania cruised to the semi-finals of the competition, thumping Burundi 4-0 at a fully packed Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.

The CECAFA Women's Championship is an association football tournament for teams from Eastern Africa, organised by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA).
