On November 20, 2019, the Arab League welcomed an agreement to normalize relations between Somalia and Kenya.

The General Secretariat of the Pan-Arab organization praised the leadership role played by the two heads of state, President Mohammad Abdullah Farmajo of Somalia and President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, in reaching the agreement.

The agreement included actions that will be taken between the two neighboring countries, with the aim of bringing peace and security to the Horn of Africa.

President Farmajo and President Kenyatta reiterated that the bilateral ties between the two states will not be affected by the outcome of the court case.

The normalization of diplomatic ties between Somalia and Kenya came after months of diplomatic row over a disputed maritime border case, which is still pending at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
