Published on November 20, 2019, a 13-year-old KCPE candidate from Lamu County has set her sights on a career in oncology.

Iffat Abdelrehman, who scored 415 out of 500 marks at Swafaa Academy in Lamu Town, aims to join Sheikh Khalifa Secondary School and later a top university to study oncology.

Her motivation stems from the alarming rise in cancer cases in Kenya, which has claimed the lives of many Kenyans recently.

"I thank God that I have managed to get good results in KCPE," she said.

Ms Abdelrehman's aunt is also pursuing a career in oncology, but she notes that her main reason for choosing this field is the devastating impact of cancer on Kenyan families.

Other top performers in Lamu County include Aisha Haroon Mohammed, who scored 429 marks and aspires to become a gynaecologist, and Muinde Monica Nzembi, who scored 415 marks.
