Published on November 20, 2019, Ngong residents have expressed their frustration with NTVRS sacco over the high fares they are being charged for traveling to the city centre.
While other saccos on the same route charge between Sh70 and Sh100, NTVRS sacco has been demanding up to Sh150 from commuters.
Residents claim that some matatus under the sacco are tricking passengers into boarding by charging the normal fare, only to demand additional Sh40 or Sh20 on the way.
One passenger took to Facebook to express their dissatisfaction, saying, 'Who else thinks NTVRS is ruining the 111 route? I honestly don’t understand how we are forced to pay Ksh 20 for old un-roadworthy vehicles like the one attached.'
Another passenger shared a similar experience, stating, 'Despite carrying excess passengers from Ole Sereni and breaking down twice, we were forced out and dumped near a vet with no refund. The management should at least consider reducing the fare back to Ksh 100 and deal with rogue drivers.'
A victim who was almost subjected to beating by a driver and conductor for complaining about the noise level of the matatu has reported the matter to the authorities and is optimistic that stern action will be taken soon.
The National Transport and Safety Authority has been called upon to regulate the fares and weed out rogue matatu crews in the sacco.
