On November 20, 2019, a group of William Ruto's supporters in the Coast region expressed their discontent with ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East legislator Babu Owino for their alleged abuse of the Deputy President.

According to a statement issued by the DP's supporters, led by Nyonga wa Makemba, the remarks made by Sifuna and Owino at the ODM's thanksgiving rally in Kibra were 'inciting' and 'went overboard.'

The statement further accused police and other relevant agencies of turning a deaf ear to the inciting remarks, warning that if the trend continues, ordinary Kenyans would be the losers.

The group warned that if Sifuna and Owino are not 'tamed early enough,' they would incite chaos among peace-loving Kenyans during the 2022 general elections.

Reacting to the statements made by Sifuna at the Kibra DC grounds, Makemba said the office of the DP must be respected by all, regardless of party affiliations.

He criticized ODM for thriving on chaos and propaganda to further their agenda, adding that the DP is being fought by some government officials who fear being displaced from their powerful positions if he takes over the presidency.

Makemba also stated that the Coast region is solidly behind the DP and that in the event of a referendum, his stand would be the stand of Coast residents.
