On November 20, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at the Mtongwe Navy Barracks in Kenya, where a 19-year-old boda boda rider, Leonard Komora, lost his life in a shooting.

Komora had gone to pick a passenger within the military compound when a soldier, on high alert due to recent terrorist activity attempts in the area, mistakenly identified him as a trespasser.

The Mtongwe Barracks have been on high alert since June 2019, when two suspected terrorists accidentally blew themselves up while making a bomb in a nearby house in Likoni.
