Deputy President William Ruto has expressed confidence in the Judiciary's ability to handle corruption cases, a stance that differs from President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa Leader Raila Odinga's criticism of the courts.

Speaking during the funeral of Prof Abel Mugenda in Kiambu County, DP Ruto praised the Judiciary for its efforts in fighting corruption, citing the recent conviction of a former National Youth Service (NYS) official who was sentenced to four years in prison or pay a Sh4 million fine for stealing Sh47.6 million.

DP Ruto's remarks come after President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga criticized the Judiciary for giving 'ridiculous' bail terms to corruption suspects, which they claim hampers the fight against corruption.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, in a speech on Jamhuri Day in 2018, accused the Judiciary of not being supportive of the graft war, while Raila Odinga, in an interview with Citizen TV, faulted the Judiciary for undermining the war on corruption by giving unreasonable bail terms to accused people.

Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji also criticized the Judiciary, alleging that 'corrupt judges' were slowing down the fight against corruption.
