On November 16, 2019, Faith Wangui, a mother of two, was found brutally murdered and her body dumped in Menengai Forest. Her ex-husband, Joseph Muchiri, was last seen with her on the evening of her murder.
According to a childhood friend, Faith had told her that she was hanging out with Joseph for that evening. The two were estranged.
Faith's body showed brutal wounds, with her left hand and breast chopped off, and her face doused in what is suspected to be acid. The body was found by herdsmen and was later taken to the Nakuru Municipal mortuary for a post-mortem.
The post-mortem indicated that Faith was strangled to death.
Four days later, on November 20, 2019, Joseph Muchiri was found dangling from a tree in Mau Narok, in what appears to be a suicide.
Nakuru County Commander Stephen Matu confirmed the incident, stating that a suicide note was found in Muchiri's trouser pocket. In the note, Muchiri allegedly cited the reason for taking his own life as being accused of killing Faith.
He further stated that he was afraid of being apprehended and tortured by authorities over the murder of his estranged wife.
According to the note, Muchiri penned his last ever thoughts before he left this world, writing, “I cannot withstand losing my precious wife. I am being blamed for her death. Let me now follow her!”
