Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has made shocking revelations about the Dandora Stadium project, which has been marred by corruption allegations. The project, which has been plagued by controversy, has seen the Governor come out to claim that the engineers mandated with the project wanted to steal Sh. 100 million by inflating the budget.
According to Sonko, the engineers had inflated their budget to Sh. 355 million, while the contractor's budget was only Sh. 255 million. When questioned about the discrepancy, the engineers claimed it was a 'typing error.'
However, Sonko has revealed that Nairobi County had only paid Sh. 96 million towards the project, contrary to reports and allegations that the budget had been hiked. He termed the reports as 'fabrications' and stated that the county would only pay money towards what is being done rightly.
During an interview on Radio Citizen's prime show 'Jambo Kenya' on Monday, Sonko also revealed plans to develop sports in Nairobi, completing eight stadia he had planned for, in a budget of one billion. The stadia will be built in two phases, with the first phase including Dandora, Westlands, Woodley, Kibera, and Ziwani, and the second phase including Mihang'o, Muuhuri Muchiri, and Mukuru kwa Njenga.
