On November 19, 2019, the Sports Registrar wrote to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa, requesting that the federation postpone its elections.

The Registrar's letter, which was copied to the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT), expressed concerns over the use of unregistered County Sports Associations in the elections.

However, the SDT refused to rule on whether or not the elections should proceed, instead opting to deliver a judgment in a separate case on December 7.

FKF's lawyer, Victor Omwebu, told the SDT that his client intends to defy the Registrar's request, calling it 'draconian'.

According to the Electoral Board, FKF's elections were scheduled to commence on November 23 across the 47 counties in the country, paving the way for national polls on December 7.

FKF president Nick Mwendwa stated that the federation will respond to the Registrar's letter on Wednesday, explaining that it was not possible to cancel the elections.
