On November 19, 2019, residents of Mombasa marked World Toilet Day with an unconventional protest in front of the Mombasa County Assembly.

They presented Clerk Salim Juma with a gift-wrapped parcel containing human waste, accompanied by an open letter and signatures from the community.

The residents of Muoroto Tudor in Mombasa were highlighting the dire need for more public toilets in the city, particularly in slums.

However, in a positive response, Juma promised to table their concerns at the assembly and engage with the community further.
