On November 19, 2019, The Standard Media Group sacked journalist Geoffrey Mosoku over a story claiming Raila Odinga's Range Rover was impounded by the DCI over tax evasion.

The story, which was published on November 19, 2019, claimed that a Range Rover registration KCS 002D had been seized as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intensified crackdown on 444 cars that authorities say have either not been paid for duty or were stolen.

However, a search at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for registration particulars of the vehicle did not yield any results, raising questions about the ownership of the vehicle.

Raila Odinga's aide, Dennis Onyango, denied the report, stating that Odinga has never owned a Range Rover vehicle.

'In the story, the Standard reported that Mr. Odinga is being sought by DCI for what amounts to tax evasion and fraud. Mr. Odinga has never ever owned a Range Rover vehicle,' said Odinga's aide in a statement to newsrooms.

He added that the story was part of an agenda of misinformation about Odinga that the paper started on September 16, 2019, when it claimed that a furious Odinga had pressed top ODM officials to explain mistakes in the party voters' register that marred Kibra by-election nominations.

Odinga has begun legal action against the newspaper.
