On November 16, 2019, a shocking incident of police corruption was uncovered in Makueni, Kenya. DCI detectives caught two police constables, Dominic Wambua and Edward Osiyo, in the act of stealing from a stalled cargo truck on Mombasa Road.
The two officers were stationed at Kambu Police Post and were supposed to be maintaining law and order, but instead, they were involved in the theft. The driver of the stalled truck had gone to report a traffic hitch at the police post, only to return and find the officers guarding as four men offloaded his cargo to a pick-up.
DCI detectives on patrol caught the six in action, including the two police constables and four other civilians. The suspects were identified as Pius Wambua, Cosmas Kilonzo, Wambua Ndege, and Pius Kimuyu.
According to the DCI, the two police officers were arrested alongside the four other civilians found stealing Tarmal Wire Products from the truck. The incident highlights the need for increased accountability and transparency within the police force.
