On Tuesday, Harambee Starlets made a statement in the Cecafa Women's Championship, defeating Djibouti 12-0 at the Chamazi Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

This victory marked their second win in the tournament, following a 2-0 win over Ethiopia in their opening match on Sunday.

With six points, Starlets are currently at the top of their Group B, pending the outcome of the match between Uganda and Ethiopia.

For Djibouti, the loss marked the end of their tournament, as they will return home early.

The high-scoring match saw Jentrix Shikangwa score four goals, while Mercy Airo and Mwanalima Adam each recorded a hat trick. Vivian Makokha and Janet Bundi also found the net with a goal each.

Corazone Aquino, a key striker in the match, did not score but played a crucial role in supplying the front line with balls.

Goalkeeper Judith Osimbo had a relatively quiet match, as Djibouti struggled to breach the Starlets' defense.

Starlets' coach David Ouma had advised his team to be 'ruthless' in their subsequent matches, and it seems they took his advice to heart.

Speaking from Dar es Salaam, Ouma said, 'I had planned to employ a defensive approach against Djibouti, but after the first half, it was clear we would easily win the match, so I allowed the girls to enjoy themselves.'

He also warned his players not to lose focus, as they move on to the next hurdle, which he believes will be tougher than the group stage.

Meanwhile, hosts Tanzania cruised to the semifinals with a 4-0 win over Burundi at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.
