On November 19, 2019, a resident of Nyagacho area in Kericho County was brutally assaulted by his landlord for turning his rented plot into a rubbish dump.
According to eyewitnesses, the resident had initially been a good tenant but had started to change his behavior, allowing friends to bring in trash and even allowing them to turn his plot into a dumping ground.
The landlord and other tenants had started to get concerned about the resident's behavior and had asked him to stop, but he refused.
"I will report you to the authorities," the landlord was quoted as saying, as he stood in the cold, his anger and frustration evident.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by landlords and tenants in Kericho County, where the lack of proper waste management facilities has led to the misuse of rented plots.
