On November 19, 2019, Solomon Kinuthia Wambui, Ndenderu Ward MCA, appeared before a Kiambu law court, where he was charged with assault and malicious damage of property.
The MCA, who was out on a police bond of Ksh. 20,000, pleaded with the court to defer his plea taking, citing that the case was being handled internally by the county assembly of Kiambu.
According to the charges, on November 8, 2019, the MCA allegedly assaulted Angela Wanjiru Kangunyi, occasioning her actual bodily harm, and willfully damaged her blouse worth Ksh. 2,500.
The defense lawyer rejected an application by the prosecution to produce a document, stating that it could not be relied on without a Hansard.
However, the complainant's lawyer was allowed to produce a Hansard, and the proceedings were temporarily halted to allow him to serve other parties with the document.
The case has attracted attention from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), who opposed the MCA's bail application.
The senior principal magistrate, Ms. Stella Atambo, directed that the MCA be held in remand until November 20, when the case will be mentioned.
