On Tuesday, November 19, 2019, Bernard Okoth, alias Imran, was sworn in as the new Kibra MP, marking a significant milestone in the constituency's history.
Okoth, who won the mini-election with 24,636 votes, was administered the oath by National Assembly Clerk Michael Sialai in the presence of Speaker Justin Muturi.
He was escorted to the chamber by nominated Jubilee MP Maina Kamanda and his Mathare colleague Anthony Oluoch (ODM), who introduced him to the Speaker before the oath was administered.
As is tradition, Okoth was presented with a copy of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the House standing orders, symbolizing his new role as a legislator.
Okoth's swearing-in ceremony marked the end of a long wait for the people of Kibra, who had been without representation in the National Assembly since the death of his late brother, Ken Okoth, on July 26, 2019.
