On November 19, 2019, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) released the National Ethics and Corruption Survey 2018, which ranked the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government as the most corrupt docket.
The survey, led by EACC Chairperson Eliud Wabukala, found that 47.5% of respondents believed that corruption and unethical conduct were most likely to be experienced in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government.
The Office of the Registrar of Persons was listed as the most corrupt institution within the Interior Ministry, with 19.9% of respondents citing it as a hotbed of corruption.
Kenya Police Service emerged as the most corrupt government institution, with 39% of respondents citing it as a hub of corruption.
Respondents also cited unemployment, poverty, and high cost of living as major challenges facing Kenyans, after corruption.
Wabukala called for the establishment of a law to manage seized assets, as well as unrestricted access to financial declaration documents and wealth declarations.
