Kenya's Interior Ministry has been ranked as the most corrupt government ministry, according to a report by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The report, released in November 2018, found that the Interior Ministry had a corruption perception index of 47.5 percent.
The report, which was released at the EACC's Integrity House headquarters in Nairobi, highlighted the need for Parliament to tighten laws and take measures to combat corruption. EACC Chairman Eliud Wabukala called for the amendment of laws to expedite the hearing and disposal of anti-corruption cases, and for State officers to step aside when under investigation or charged with graft.
The report also showed that incidences of graft in the Interior ministry declined by 17.9 percent over the last one year, from 64.7 percent in 2017. The Health ministry, headed by Ms Sicily Kariuki, also saw a decline in graft incidents, from 27.8 percent in 2017 to 17.9 percent in 2018.
However, the Agriculture docket, which is in the hands of Mr Mwangi Kiunjuri, slid further into corruption, taking the third place in the survey conducted in December 2018. The Lands ministry also registered a significant drop in incidences of graft, from 23.9 per cent in 2017 to 11 percent in 2018.
