On November 19, 2019, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) grounded Silverstone Air's fleet, citing safety concerns following a series of incidents.
The airline, which had been promising to be the next domestic flight operator in the country, has now notified its employees of a possible redundancy due to huge losses incurred as a result of the grounding.
According to internal communication, the airline's Dash 8 fleet was grounded after a series of incidents, including a crash at Wilson Airport on October 11, 2019, which had five crew and 50 passengers on board, but fortunately resulted in no fatalities.
Another incident occurred on October 27, 2019, when one of the airline's aircraft clipped an EASAX aircraft at the ramp at Wilson Airport, and on October 28, 2019, an aircraft lost a wheel on take-off from Lodwar, forcing an unscheduled landing at the Eldoret International Airport.
