As I reflect on my childhood, I am reminded of the importance of discipline in raising children. My parents instilled in me and my siblings a strong sense of responsibility and hard work, which has served us well into adulthood.

One of the most memorable aspects of our childhood was the strict routine we followed, especially during holidays. We would wake up at 5 am every day, regardless of the day of the week, and start our chores. This included cooking, washing uniforms, doing dishes, and ironing.

Our parents believed that discipline was essential in teaching us valuable life skills, such as time management, self-reliance, and teamwork. They also wanted us to appreciate the value of hard work and the importance of contributing to the household.

Looking back, I realize that our parents' approach was not about punishment, but about preparing us for the challenges of life. They wanted us to be independent, self-sufficient, and responsible individuals who could make a positive contribution to society.

Unfortunately, many children today are not given the same opportunities to develop these essential life skills. Instead, they are often left to the mercy of their house helps, who are expected to do everything for them. This not only undermines the child's sense of responsibility but also creates a culture of entitlement and laziness.

As a society, we need to rethink our approach to parenting and discipline. We need to recognize the importance of teaching children valuable life skills and the value of hard work. We need to encourage parents to take an active role in their children's upbringing and to provide them with the guidance and support they need to succeed.

By doing so, we can create a generation of responsible, independent, and self-sufficient individuals who are equipped to make a positive contribution to society.
