On November 19, 2019, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) released the results of a survey on corruption in the Kenyan government.
The Registrar of Persons, a department under the Immigration Department within the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of Government, received the highest number of bribes, accounting for 19.9% of all bribes given by Kenyans.
Public hospitals ranked second, with 19.7% of those polled reporting that they had given bribes to these institutions.
The police were ranked third, with 17.2% of those polled reporting that they had given bribes to regular police officers.
According to the EACC survey, the average amount of a bribe in Kenya stood at Sh3,833.14.
"The average bribe paid dropped further from KES 5,058.75 in the 2017 Survey to stand at KES 3,833.14 in 2018, this being the lowest recorded since 2012," the survey stated.
