On November 17, 2019, 20 students from Kanyawanga Boys High School went missing, sparking concerns among school administrators and local authorities.

Four of the missing students were later found to have sneaked into Tuk Jowi Girls Secondary School in Migori County at midnight, where they were arrested by police.

According to Rongo OCPD Joel Kiptum, the students used their phones to communicate with the girls, and four cellphones were recovered by police during the arrest.

The students were released on a free bond to continue with their exams, but were ordered to report to Rongo Police Station after completing their papers.

Exams were scheduled to end on November 22, 2019, marking the end of the examination period.

Police urged school administrators to be vigilant in securing the school environment, especially during the exam season, to prevent students from being attacked by locals on suspicion of theft.
