On November 18, 2019, Sports Kenya announced that it had successfully negotiated an out-of-court settlement with the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) and the Nyeri County government to resolve the ownership dispute of the Ruring'u stadium in Nyeri.

The dispute, which began in 2017, centered around the renovation of the stadium, which was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in February 2017. The renovation was scheduled to be complete by July 2018, but the Trustees of ASK quickly moved to court, accusing Sports Kenya and Nyeri County of trespass and encroachment on the land the stadium stands.

According to court documents, the county government argued that the land was registered in the name of its predecessor, the County Council of Nyeri, in 1958. However, ASK's lawyer, Wekesa Milimo, noted that the county government had no legal document to demonstrate ownership.

The Ruring'u stadium has a rich history, having initially hosted an annual agricultural exhibition by ASK before the society relocated the fair to Kabiruini grounds.
